Cute owl pendant carved from a solid piece of rock crystal, with a silver bail, circa 1970. The owl has been carved into the rock, using a technique called reverse crystal intaglio. This gives the effect of 3D on the reverse. Small hand carved details give the effect of feathers, eyes and a beak. 
The eyes of the owl show two small orange painted dots. The colour of an owls eyes indicates the time of day they hunt, which in this case is at dusk and dawn. 

Roman goddess Minerva (Athena in Greece) is the goddess of wisdom, and her pet owl is a symbol of not only wisdom, but of knowledge, culture and discernment.
